Sag Harbor Advances Sewer Line Extension Plans

The Sag Harbor Village Board is moving forward with the next phase of its sewer line extension project, reaffirming its commitment to improving water quality and infrastructure.

At its first meeting of the new fiscal year, the board voted to apply for a $4.81 million state water quality improvement grant, requiring $1.2 million in matching funds. If approved, the project would extend sewer lines south on Main Street to Howard Street, then to Long Island Avenue and Glover Street. The total cost is estimated at $13.81 million, with additional funding expected from other grants.

Future phases could expand the line farther south on Main Street, serving 137 parcels in total. Trustee Aidan Corish noted the importance of continued grant applications to keep Sag Harbor on the state’s radar, even after a previous application was denied.

The board also agreed to seek up to $50,000 for a study on a potential underground water treatment system for the Redwood area. Meanwhile, Trustee Ed Haye shared updates on the county’s plans to rebuild County Road 79 and improve a culvert at Ligonee Creek to help restore river otter habitats.

These steps highlight Sag Harbor’s ongoing efforts to balance growth, sustainability, and environmental protection.
