Swifty’s Returns: NYC Socialite Favorite Heads to East Hampton

An Upper East Side classic is making its way to the Hamptons. Swifty’s, once a beloved Manhattan society spot frequented by names like Michael Kors, Aerin Lauder, and Buzz Aldrin, is set to open in East Hampton, bringing its storied reputation and old-school charm to the East End.

The new location will take over the historic Hedges space, most recently home to Sartiano’s, a short-lived venture that often found itself at odds with locals. Swifty’s, by contrast, is expected to be a more natural fit for the community, offering the kind of refined gathering place it was known for in New York City.

Founded in 1999 as the successor to Mortimer’s, Swifty’s quickly became a go-to destination for socialites, celebrities, and locals alike. Its reputation for mixing sophistication with a welcoming, clubby atmosphere made it one of the Upper East Side’s most enduring haunts until it closed in 2016. The restaurant’s Palm Beach pop-up at the Colony Hotel has been a huge success, proving the timeless appeal of its formula.

Now under the leadership of Robert Caravaggi, Swifty’s will bring its signature menu of old-school classics to the Hamptons. Guests can expect the same polished yet approachable experience that made the original so beloved, blending society flair with a sense of intimacy where you never quite know who you’ll be dining next to.

With its new East Hampton home, Swifty’s is poised to once again become a hub for both longtime fans and a new generation of diners. This return not only revives a celebrated piece of New York dining history but also introduces a sophisticated new chapter in the Hamptons’ ever-evolving culinary scene.
