A historic Hamptons landmark has entered a new era. The Maidstone, a boutique hotel built in 1804 and long an East Hampton institution, has reopened under new ownership with a fresh identity that balances heritage with modern hospitality. The transformation comes from Irwin Simon and Mayank Dwivedi of ISMD, in partnership with John Meadow of LDV Hospitality, the group behind the acclaimed Scarpetta restaurants.

The property retains its charm while embracing a new vision. The main building houses 16 guest rooms, joined by three cottage suites and a boutique gift shop. Designer Poonam Khanna of Unionworks infused the interiors with inspiration from the surrounding landscape, using a palette of sand, green, blue, and peach. Guest rooms feature plush Frette linens and clawfoot tubs, while the cottages offer cozy living areas and private gardens. The shop carries Tata Harper skincare and fashion pieces from Giulivia Heritage, further underscoring the hotel’s emphasis on thoughtful luxury.

Dining is central to the new experience. The on-site restaurant, guided by LDV partner Chef Jorge Espinoza, brings Scarpetta-inspired Italian dishes to East Hampton in an intimate setting just off the bar and lounge. Signature offerings include wagyu strip, lobster ravioli, and linguini nera with crabmeat, uni, Calabrian chili, and lemon. With its jewel-box size and convivial atmosphere, the restaurant is designed to feel like a dinner party among friends, making it as much of a draw as the hotel itself.

The Maidstone’s relaunch emphasizes what the team calls “la dolce vita” — a lifestyle centered on warmth, connection, and pleasure. From lively evenings with live music to elegant yet relaxed meals, the property now offers both locals and visitors an experience that captures the timeless allure of East Hampton while introducing a distinctly Italian spirit.
