New York’s Farm Directory: What Farmers Need to Know

New York State is continuing to build out its Farm Directory, a statewide listing created to help buyers, businesses, and communities easily find farms and New York–grown products. First enacted in 2021 and updated in 2022, the Directory supports local agriculture by improving visibility for farms and strengthening connections within the state’s food system.

Why It Matters

The Directory serves as a central resource for anyone looking to source locally — from restaurants and retailers to residents and institutions. By showcasing available products and farm details, it helps:

  • Support small farms and rural economies
  • Expand market opportunities
  • Promote local and sustainable sourcing

For Farm Owners

New York is actively updating the Directory and encourages farms to participate. Owners can:

  • Create or update listings at https://farmdirectory.agriculture.ny.gov/Farms
  • Include products, contact info, and the most helpful business address
  • Opt out if they do not want to be listed — a decision that remains in place for the life of the Directory

All information is self-reported, and the Directory is provided as a public informational tool.

As the state continues to strengthen local food networks, the Farm Directory plays an increasingly important role in connecting New York farms with the communities that rely on them.
