School of Rock has added a new creative energy to downtown Riverhead, bringing its performance-based music education model to West Main Street. Located at 212 West Main Street, the school expanded the brand’s East End presence and reinforced Riverhead’s growing role as a cultural and arts-focused hub.
Opened by longtime School of Rock operators Tracie and Jaime Smith, the Riverhead location builds on the success of their Port Jefferson Station school, which they have run for more than a decade. Their son, Justin Smith, serves as general manager, continuing a family-led approach rooted in hands-on musical training and mentorship.
The school offers programs for a wide range of ages and skill levels, starting with young children and extending through teens and adults. Its teaching philosophy centers on learning through real songs, combining private instruction with group rehearsals and live performance opportunities. Students practice and perform as part of a band, reinforcing confidence, collaboration, and stage experience alongside technical skill.
More advanced programs culminate in public performances at local venues, connecting students directly with the community and giving them real-world performance experience. Rehearsal spaces within the school are designed to encourage independence and focus, while qualified instructors guide students through both creative and technical growth.
As the only School of Rock location serving the East End, the Riverhead school has become part of a broader downtown ecosystem that includes other arts and music institutions. Its presence reflects Riverhead’s continued evolution as a central gathering point for families, creatives, and businesses across both the North Fork and the Hamptons.
