A new destination for local wine, farm goods and community gatherings arrived in Moriches about two years ago with the opening of The Wine Barn and Farmers Market at the historic LaCorte’s Farm Stand property. The concept, created by Westhampton couple Joseph Mileti and Kristina Kinneary, blends a traditional farm stand with a wine bar featuring bottles and glasses from several well-known Long Island wineries.
The couple renovated the longtime farm stand, which first opened in 1959, while preserving much of its original character. Inside the space, a half-wall divides the building into two sections. One side operates as a wine bar showcasing selections from local vineyards including Croteaux Vineyards, Jamesport Vineyards, Roanoke Vineyards and Wölffer Estate. The other side continues the farm stand tradition with locally sourced plants, jams, cheeses and seasonal produce supplied by regional farms.
A key part of the transition was maintaining the legacy of the original stand. The new owners kept LaCorte’s signage and, most importantly, continued baking the farm stand’s beloved pies and baked goods using the original recipes. Favorites such as Dutch apple crumb, lemon meringue and fruit-filled specialty pies remain a draw for longtime customers who had visited the stand for decades.
Beyond wine and baked goods, the venue also serves light bites such as charcuterie boards and mini pizzas. Guests can also enjoy beers from Long Island breweries including Blue Point Brewing Company, Great South Bay Brewery, Greenport Harbor Brewing Company and Montauk Brewing Company, expanding the drink offerings beyond wine.
The Wine Barn and Farmers Market has since positioned itself as both a retail destination and a gathering space for the community. With outdoor seating, seasonal produce and plans for events such as live music and local gatherings, the Moriches spot blends North Fork wine culture with the classic charm of a neighborhood farm stand.
