Sewage Treatment Plant Planned for Hampton Bays Revitalization

Southampton Town is moving forward with plans to build a new sewage treatment plant in Hampton Bays, a key step in supporting long-term downtown revitalization and environmental improvements. The Town Board has approved the $3.2 million purchase of 30.8 acres off Old Riverhead Road, where the facility will be developed.

The proposed system will include a 20,000-square-foot treatment building along with leaching pools designed to replace outdated cesspools and septic systems. This infrastructure upgrade is expected to significantly reduce nitrogen pollution and improve local water quality, benefiting both the environment and the surrounding community.

Town officials see the project as a critical foundation for future growth in Hampton Bays. By introducing modern sewer infrastructure, the area will be better positioned to support new businesses, restaurants, and mixed-use development, helping to create a more active and connected downtown.

The initiative aligns with broader community goals to enhance the business district while improving overall quality of life. With the land acquisition approved, the next phase of the project will focus on designing the system and planning its implementation.
