A landmark shift in the North Fork maritime industry has taken place as Port of Egypt Marine, a family-owned staple in Southold since 1946, has been sold to luxury yachtmaker Hinckley. The deal ends over 80 years of ownership by the Lieblein family, who transformed the site from a small fishing station into a premier 132-slip marina and dealership.
The acquisition is part of a broader $40 million expansion strategy by Hinckley to create a “string of pearls” service network along the East Coast. While the transition marks the end of an era, Hinckley intends to retain the Port of Egypt name, the entire 16-person staff, and core operations. Cousins Will and Yvonne Lieblein will remain in leadership roles to ensure continuity for the North Fork boating community.
Planned upgrades for the eight-acre Southold Bay site include shoreline restoration, expanded heated indoor storage, and the reintroduction of a diesel program. While the marina will continue to service a diverse range of vessels, the sale has led to one significant change: the conclusion of Port of Egypt’s 66-year partnership with Grady-White. The brand’s inventory has transitioned to Strong’s Marine as Hinckley refocuses the dealership toward larger yacht models.
This sale highlights an accelerating trend of consolidation within the marina industry, where long-standing family docks are increasingly acquired by larger corporate entities. Industry peers note that this “Hampton-ization” of the North Fork reflects a growing demand for elevated service and larger slips. Despite these changes, the Liebleins emphasized that the marina’s tradition of community involvement and charitable events will remain a core part of its identity.
Port of Egypt Marine remains open and operational under its new ownership, offering the same familiar faces with significantly expanded resources. The move ensures the long-term viability of the marina while positioning it to meet the evolving needs of the East End’s active boating region.
