Land conservation momentum across the North Fork reached a major benchmark following Southold Town’s approval of a $6.1 million allocation from its Community Preservation Fund. The multi-property initiative secures nearly 50 acres of agricultural and ecological resources, simultaneously expanding established farming corridors in Cutchogue and opening new public waterfront vistas along Southold Bay.

A major component of the purchase involves acquiring development rights across nearly 30 acres of agricultural soil at Pellegrini Vineyards. Situated along Main Road, the transaction locks in a crucial missing piece within a broader contiguous network of nearly 600 protected acres between Elijahs and Alvahs Lane, ensuring the parcel remains permanently dedicated to active farming.

Complementing the agricultural easement, a parallel $3.6 million joint acquisition with Suffolk County targets a 13.65-acre undeveloped coastal tract on North Bayview Road. Managed in coordination with the Peconic Land Trust, the property will be preserved as a public nature sanctuary—safeguarding vital marine wetlands, enhancing flood mitigation, and granting residents direct access to Southold Bay.
