Southampton Secures $7.5M Acquisition of Sag Harbor Marina

The Town of Southampton has officially finalized the $7.5 million purchase of the 60-slip Redwood Anchorage Marina at 40 South Redwood Road in Sag Harbor. Funded entirely through the municipal Community Preservation Fund (CPF), the acquisition transfers the long-standing maritime property into public ownership, ensuring the waterfront asset remains dedicated to community use rather than private luxury development.

Under an upcoming intermunicipal agreement, day-to-day operations of the facility will be managed directly by the Village of Sag Harbor. The site will prioritize affordable slip rentals exclusively for full-time residents of Southampton Town and Sag Harbor Village, safeguarding accessible dockage for local boaters in an increasingly competitive East End maritime market.

Beyond preserving traditional waterfront access, the municipal partnership plans to integrate environmental stewardship directly into the facility’s operations. Village leaders are collaborating with the Cornell Cooperative Extension on a programming initiative to host public educational workshops, marine habitat research, and local youth environmental science activities centered on coastal water quality and shellfish restoration.
