The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has authorized a 10-year lease agreement for the 1895 East Hampton station depot, paving the way for the creation of East Hampton Bar Car. Led by developer Holden Rosen Grupp, the project introduces a dual-concept venue designed to serve both daily commuters and local evening crowds.

The business model transitions throughout the day, offering quick grab-and-go morning espresso and breakfast options for transit riders before shifting into an intimate evening gathering spot featuring wine and light bites. Capital improvements planned for the space focus on honoring the building’s architectural heritage through warm lighting, traditional woodwork, classic signage, and flexible seating layouts, alongside new outdoor seating areas authorized for passenger and guest use.

To support food and beverage service on-site, the project includes crucial infrastructure modernizations, most notably an upgraded wastewater management system funded through structured lease terms. Beyond adding a boutique amenity to Railroad Avenue, the establishment will help ensure extended public access to the historic station house waiting facilities and amenities.

While timeline milestones depend on municipal environmental permitting and health department approvals, the operator aims to initiate operations seasonally before exploring potential year-round service. The venture marks a thoughtful blend of historic transit infrastructure and modern South Fork commercial hospitality.
