The former site of the notorious Bel-Aire Cove Motel in Hampton Bays is set to become a scenic public park. Southampton Town officials have unveiled plans to transform the 1.4-acre Shinnecock Road property into a passive recreation area, following strong community support for open space preservation.
The draft design includes kayak racks, a floating dock for paddlers on Penny Pond, a picnic pavilion, grassy play areas, and restored wetlands with a low-sill bulkhead to support shoreline ecology. A small paved parking area and semi-circle driveway will accommodate visitors.
With construction expected to begin this fall and finish by spring, the park marks a major step in revitalizing the area. The neighboring parcel, managed by the Southampton Town Trustees, will also be improved—turning this once-troubled site into a welcoming, cohesive waterfront space for all to enjoy.
