East Hampton Approves $55 Million Easement to Protect Georgica Cove

East Hampton Town, Village, and the Peconic Land Trust approved a $55 million conservation easement to preserve 5.5 acres along Cove Hollow Farm Road. The scenic land, adjacent to Georgica Cove, is considered environmentally sensitive and at risk of future development.

The town and village each will contribute $10 million, with the Peconic Land Trust covering the remaining $35 million. The purchase will be funded through the Community Preservation Fund and is aimed at protecting local wildlife habitats, improving water quality, and maintaining the area’s natural beauty.

The easement will restrict development while allowing limited public use like trails and parking. The land is home to several endangered species and lies near impaired coastal waters, making its preservation a priority for both environmental and community reasons.
