Montauk residents are one step closer to having a local pharmacy again. Montauk Chemists, located at 725A Montauk Highway, has opened its doors with over-the-counter products such as vitamins, self-care items, and wellness essentials. While the store is operational, its pharmacy services are still pending final New York State approval following a June 5 inspection. Longtime local pharmacist Frank Calvo, formerly of White’s Drug and Department Store, expects the certification process to take four to six weeks, though efforts are underway to expedite it.
Once approved, Montauk Chemists will offer services the hamlet has not had before, including in-store vaccinations, virtual doctor visits, nutritional consulting, and the sale of medical equipment such as surgical supplies, commodes, and wheelchairs. Montauk has been without a pharmacy since White’s Drug and Department Store closed on October 31, 2024, after more than five decades in business. In the meantime, the Town of East Hampton’s Senior Shopping Assistance Program continues to help residents 60 and older by providing prescription pickups, grocery shopping assistance, and in-store aides.
With the store now open and preparations underway for its full launch, Calvo and his team are ready to serve the community once again — bringing back a much-needed local pharmacy and expanding healthcare services in Montauk.
