Riverhead has a new reason to celebrate summer with the arrival of Ben & Jerry’s Riverhead, which officially opened its doors on July 10 at 87 East Main Street. The shop is owned and operated by Angela and Steven Siliato, who envisioned the ice cream franchise as a family business that could involve their three young children while also bringing something fun and delicious to the community.
Steven comes from a background in family business, having grown up helping at Siliato Liquors in Miller Place, a store that has stood for more than 50 years. While continuing their professional careers — Steven as an attorney and Angela in the pharmacy at Mather Hospital — the couple began preparing the Riverhead location for Ben & Jerry’s in February. After a full renovation that updated the electric, floors, and plumbing, the former Sunny’s Riverhead Diner & Grill was transformed into a bright, welcoming ice cream shop.
Now open, Ben & Jerry’s Riverhead serves many of the brand’s iconic flavors such as Cherry Garcia and Chunky Monkey, along with seasonal specials. A grand-opening celebration on July 11 featured free samples, giveaways, and a ribbon-cutting with Riverhead Town Supervisor Tim Hubbard, officially marking the Siliato family’s debut on East Main Street.
Ben & Jerry’s Riverhead is open noon to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and noon to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. With its central location and wide variety of flavors, the shop is set to become a new go-to destination for both residents and visitors this summer.
