Sometimes the best finds are the ones hiding in plain sight. For years now, visitors to Java Nation in Bridgehampton have discovered a not-so-secret treasure sitting right on the counter — a basket brimming with hefty chunks of Guittard bittersweet chocolate.
Guittard, a fifth-generation, family-owned chocolate maker from San Francisco, has been crafting premium chocolate since 1868. Its rich history began when founder Etienne Guittard brought his family’s recipes from France during the California Gold Rush. Today, the brand remains a favorite among professional pastry chefs and home bakers alike — and somehow, this beloved West Coast chocolate has found a cozy home right here on the East End.
At Java Nation, the unassuming coffee shop tucked beside the Bridgehampton train station, the chocolate has become a local favorite. Owner Andres Bedini has created a space that’s simple, genuine, and focused on the essentials: excellent coffee, flaky pastries, and a welcoming atmosphere. Regulars come for their daily caffeine fix, but those who know make sure to grab a piece (or a pound) of the rich Guittard chocolate while they’re there. Sold by the pound, it’s perfect for nibbling alongside a latte or melting into homemade cookies.
Even a couple of years since it first made headlines, Java Nation’s chocolate stash continues to charm customers who stumble upon it — a delicious reminder that some of the East End’s sweetest treasures are often the ones quietly waiting to be discovered.
