The Peconic Land Trust’s offering of more than 135 acres of farmland on Oregon Road in Cutchogue has now been completed, with all but one of the parcels sold to local farmers. The sales mark another milestone in the Trust’s ongoing effort to preserve the North Fork’s agricultural heritage and ensure that prime farmland remains in production for generations to come.
The four parcels, which span from Depot Lane to Alvahs Lane with frontage along Oregon Road, were originally listed through the Trust’s Farms for the Future Initiative — a program designed to keep preserved farmland in the hands of working farmers. Following a competitive proposal process that drew 13 applicants, three of the properties have found new owners who are already cultivating the land.
Fred Lee of Sang Lee Farms purchased the 26.07-acre parcel at 8500 Alvahs Lane, while Anthony and Lisa Sannino of Sannino Vineyard acquired the 12.83-acre parcel at 19285 and 19155 County Road 48. In May 2024, Will Lee purchased the 41.78-acre parcel at 7800 Oregon Road, continuing the area’s long tradition of family farming. The fourth parcel — approximately 50 acres — remains available, awaiting its next agricultural steward.
Since its founding in 1983, the Peconic Land Trust has conserved more than 14,000 acres of farmland and open space across Long Island. While preservation remains central to its mission, the Trust’s work on Oregon Road exemplifies its deeper purpose: keeping farmland active, productive, and connected to the community that depends on it.
With new farmers now cultivating the land, the sweeping vistas and fertile soil of Oregon Road continue to represent the heart of the North Fork’s agricultural identity — a living link between past traditions and a sustainable future.
