More than two years after first announcing its arrival, Barnes & Noble’s Bridgehampton Commons location has become a welcome addition to the Hamptons’ retail and cultural landscape. The bookstore, which opened in the summer of 2023, marked the company’s first store in the Hamptons and its second on the East End, following the Riverhead opening the year prior.
Located at 2044 Montauk Highway, near King Kullen and Petco, the Bridgehampton Barnes & Noble occupies two adjoining storefronts once home to Collette and Collette Annex. Since opening, it has become a favorite stop for locals and visitors alike — offering everything from summer reads and bestsellers to art books, cookbooks, and a curated selection chosen by local booksellers.
The expansion reflected a broader national resurgence for the brand, as Barnes & Noble began opening dozens of new stores across the country following years of slowed growth. The Bridgehampton store joined this new wave, combining the charm of a locally run bookshop with the resources of a major bookseller.
For the Hamptons, the addition brought something special: a dedicated space for readers, families, and book lovers to gather, discover new titles, and celebrate the enduring joy of print. The opening also carried a symbolic connection to the community — longtime bookselling visionary Leonard Riggio, often credited with shaping the modern Barnes & Noble, has been a Bridgehampton resident for years.
Today, the bookstore continues to thrive as a destination for both everyday readers and seasonal visitors. It’s more than a retail space — it’s a reminder that even in the digital age, the love of books is very much alive on the East End.
