North Shore Plant Company Brings a Lifelong Passion for Plants to Cutchogue

A childhood dream came full circle for Wading River resident Nick Sollazzo when he opened North Shore Plant Company. Located in Cutchogue, the nursery grew out of Sollazzo’s lifelong fascination with plants and greenhouses, a passion that first took root while exploring the greenhouse in his grandfather’s backyard as a child.

Today, the small business has been transformed into a thriving plant nursery featuring hundreds of plant varieties. Since opening in 2021, North Shore Plant Company has expanded its collection to include more than 400 types of plants, with a strong focus on perennials that are well suited to growing conditions on the North Fork.

Sollazzo has built the nursery around a carefully curated selection of both familiar and unusual plants. Many varieties are chosen for their unique colors, textures and ability to thrive in the local climate. One standout favorite is the Bloodgood Japanese maple, a tree known for its deep red foliage, which appears throughout the nursery in multiple varieties.

Beyond simply selling plants, the nursery also emphasizes education and community engagement. Sollazzo regularly shares his knowledge about plant care, propagation and gardening techniques with customers, helping both experienced gardeners and beginners better understand how to grow and maintain their plants successfully.

The property also continues to evolve. Plans for the nursery include a large u pick flower garden featuring dozens of rows of seasonal blooms, allowing visitors to create their own bouquets directly from the fields. With its mix of rare plants, gardening expertise and hands on experiences, North Shore Plant Company has become a unique destination for plant lovers across the North Fork.
