Riverhead Town has approved a new agreement allowing the renowned Skip Barber Racing School to operate at the EPCAL site, marking an exciting addition to the area’s growing list of unique experiences and uses for the former airfield. The approval grants a revocable, nonexclusive license for the temporary use of approximately nine acres along Runway 14/32.

Under the agreement, DMS Apex Holdings, which operates Skip Barber Racing School, will conduct professional driving instruction programs, including advanced training in partnership with the Sports Car Club of America. The program will take place on a designated portion of the eastern runway, creating a controlled environment for both beginner and advanced drivers to develop high-performance driving skills.

The Skip Barber Racing School is widely recognized as one of the premier driver training programs in the country, known for its structured curriculum that blends classroom instruction with hands-on track experience. Programs typically focus on vehicle control, racing fundamentals, and performance techniques, attracting everyone from enthusiasts to aspiring professional drivers.

Operations at EPCAL will be limited to approved dates and will run between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., ensuring structured and regulated use of the site. All scheduling will be coordinated through the Town Attorney’s Office, maintaining oversight while allowing flexibility for programming.

This approval represents another step in Riverhead’s ongoing efforts to activate and diversify the use of EPCAL. By bringing in a nationally recognized program like Skip Barber Racing School, the town continues to position the site as a hub for innovative recreation, training, and economic activity.
