East Hampton Library Unveils Expanded Young Adult Space

The East Hampton Library has enhanced its offerings for younger visitors with the completion of its newly expanded Young Adult Room, creating a modern, flexible space designed for both learning and creativity. Building on previous renovations and expansions, the updated area reflects the library’s ongoing investment in community-focused spaces.

Designed by Skolnick Architecture + Design Partnership, the expansion transforms an adjacent stacks area into a cohesive extension of the original room. The design carries through a nature-inspired aesthetic, featuring warm wood tones, soft neutrals, and curved architectural elements that create a welcoming and calming environment. Thoughtful details like sculptural ceiling features and a continuous carpeted pathway help tie the space together visually.

Functionality was a key focus of the project. The upgraded room now includes a smart board for presentations and collaborative work, along with designated areas for both group study and quiet reading. Display walls offer space for artwork, while integrated charging stations support today’s tech-driven students.

Flexible seating arrangements allow the room to adapt throughout the day, whether it’s being used for independent study, group projects, or library programming. The layout encourages both social interaction and focused work, making it a versatile hub for teens in the community.

With this latest expansion, the East Hampton Library continues to evolve as a dynamic resource, providing young adults with a space that supports education, creativity, and connection.
