Veterans Memorial Park in Calverton is expanding its role as a hub for local sports with the opening of a second hockey rink at Peconic Ice Rinks. The new outdoor space introduces a versatile addition to the existing year-round indoor rink, creating more opportunities for players of all ages to get on the ice or the court.
The rink is currently set up as a dek and roller hockey facility, built with durable sports court material designed for multi-use play. Youth and adult clinics are already underway, along with leagues and programming that bring both beginners and experienced players together. The goal is to make the space accessible year-round while continuing to grow the hockey community on the East End.
As temperatures drop, the outdoor rink will transition into a seasonal ice rink, adding even more capacity during the busy winter months. Plans include public skating sessions, games, practices for travel teams, and special events, creating a lively winter destination for both players and spectators.
The vision for the space extends beyond hockey. Future plans include additional sports programming, along with amenities like locker rooms, picnic areas, fire pits, and concessions to enhance the overall experience for families and visitors.
Operated by the Peconic Hockey Foundation, the rinks reflect a larger effort to bring high-quality recreational facilities to the area. With strong community support and growing programming, the expanded complex is quickly becoming a go-to destination for sports and outdoor activity in Calverton.
