Sag Harbor’s waterfront dining scene has gained a sophisticated new anchor. Zagara, the flagship dining concept at the newly transformed Faraway Sag Harbor hotel, brings a dedicated Southern Italian coastal culinary philosophy straight to the water’s edge at 31 West Water Street. Occupying the historic harborfront property formerly known as Baron’s Cove, the restaurant anchors a beautifully reimagined 67-room boutique resort compound that blends classic maritime heritage with an easy, Mediterranean-inspired elegance.
The name Zagara refers to the fragrant orange and lemon blossoms native to Italy, hinting at a menu that values bright acidity, pure olive oils, and clean preparations. Moving away from heavy, cream-based sauces, the kitchen focuses entirely on the pristine quality of its seafood. Diners looking out over the harbor can expect a vibrant selection of Amalfi-inspired oysters, pristine crudos dressed in coastal citrus, and traditional handmade pastas tossed with local clams and bottarga. The culinary framework honors the simplicity of Mediterranean seaside cooking, where the natural flavor of the daily catch is the main performance.
Designed in collaboration with Jenny Bukovec Studio, the multi-level space rejects cold, industrial finishes in favor of an atmosphere defined by whitewashed walls, custom hand-painted ceramics, fine linen textures, and abundant natural light. The sprawling, 260-seat footprint flows effortlessly from day to night, encompassing a sun-dappled outdoor terrace and an intimate private dining room. Inside the main lobby lounge, guests can gather around a striking green herringbone bar for light bites and custom harborside cocktails.
By introducing a deliberate, ingredient-driven menu to the local business district, Zagara avoids the loud theatricality of larger coastal restaurants. The understated, trattoria-scale intimacy creates an intentional alternative for diners who appreciate world-class sourcing and understated luxury. Officially accepting reservations starting June 11th, the waterfront hideaway gives locals and travelers alike a picturesque, sunset-lit terrace to experience the relaxed rhythms of the Italian coastline right from the South Fork.
