A New Chapter for Riverhead’s Lighthouse Marine Supply

A vital fixture of Eastern Long Island’s boating network is officially passing the torch. Lighthouse Marine Supply, a staple serving local watermen and boaters for nearly fifty years, has transitioned leadership to Jamesport local Michael Bertran and his family. The move marks an exciting evolution for the Edgar Avenue business, bridging traditional storefront expertise with modern operational growth.

The acquisition developed naturally out of a neighborly connection between Bertran and outgoing founder Clete Galasso. Seeking a family-run enterprise to build alongside his wife, Kate, and their two children, Bertran pivoted from a successful two-decade career in global technology consulting to take on the marine outfit. To ensure a seamless transition, Galasso spent extended time mentoring Bertran and remains a frequent, welcome presence around the shop, preserving the deep institutional knowledge and community ties that built the company’s reputation.

While the core values of hands-on customer service and deep maritime expertise stay firmly intact, Bertran is leveraging his background in tech and strategy to expand the store’s reach. Enhancements to their e-commerce platforms and international shipping logistics are helping round out the business model, balancing the natural seasonality of East End boating with steady global demand.

Whether supplying commercial mariners or weekend sailors, the store remains committed to keeping Riverhead’s maritime community fully equipped for the water.
