The culinary landscape in downtown Riverhead is set for a major addition as the team behind South Jamesport’s Watershed Kitchen & Inn prepares to launch Abigayle’s at 428 E. Main Street. Occupying the turn-of-the-century landmark building originally constructed for Suffolk County’s first salaried sheriff, the multi-level venue introduces a neighborhood-focused dining destination directly across from the Peconic Riverfront.
The three-story concept blends historic architectural details with global culinary influences inspired by the owners’ backgrounds, featuring a menu crafted around regional seafood, artisanal pasta, and Caribbean-accented flavor profiles. Designed by North Fork firm Lumber & Salt, the main dining room and wrap-around porch accommodate over 60 guests, while a dedicated second floor provides flexible space for private gatherings and corporate events.
The move reflects a strategic partnership with local developer Joe Petrocelli, whose ongoing investments in the riverfront district and nearby Town Square project have spurred a wave of commercial interest across the corridor. By bringing their hands-on operational model to the site, the owners aim to deliver a consistent, year-round hospitality experience that complements the broader cultural and economic momentum transforming downtown Riverhead.
A subterranean cocktail lounge offering low-lit seating and a late-night menu is planned as a secondary launch phase following the summer preview period. By establishing a hands-on, family-operated presence in one of downtown’s centerpiece heritage buildings, the launch underscores Riverhead’s ongoing revitalization as a vibrant, year-round hub for East End dining.
