Operating out of the Montauk Anglers Club along East Lake Drive, the Montauk Shark Lab serves as a frontline hub for marine research, hands-on environmental education, and apex predator conservation on the East End. Established as the public-facing home base for the non-profit O’Seas Conservation Foundation—led by marine biologist Dr. Craig O’Connell—the facility bridges the gap between field research and community engagement.

Inside the educational marine center, visitors of all ages can explore interactive touch tanks and view native coastal species up close, including chain catsharks, stingrays, seahorses, and American eels. Designed to foster ocean stewardship, the space invites guests to examine shark denticles under microscopes, learn about local nursery habitats, and discover the essential ecological role sharks play in maintaining balanced Atlantic food webs.

Beyond its interactive exhibits, the laboratory funds ongoing marine research projects through voluntary guest contributions, supporting local tagging efforts and youth science initiatives.
