Southampton Town is allocating nearly $5 million from its Community Preservation Fund (CPF) toward strategic land acquisitions in Quogue and Quiogue. Aimed at fortifying coastal resilience and safeguarding tidal ecosystems, the municipal investments protect key wetland buffers along western Shinnecock Bay and its surrounding feeder streams.

The conservation strategy targets both sides of the bay. On the northern shore in Quiogue, the town is acquiring a 2-acre residential property along Quantuck Creek for $2.7 million across three family-owned parcels. As part of the agreement, existing structures will be demolished to restore the 150-foot shoreline corridor back to a natural marshland filter, preventing high-density residential redevelopment. On the barrier island along Dune Road in Quogue, the town approved a $2 million purchase of a 3.6-acre marshland tract, securing the public walkway footprint associated with the Quogue Boardwalk while completing a continuous preserved wetland zone alongside a previously approved 3.8-acre neighboring acquisition.

By transitioning developed and vulnerable waterfront acreage back into protected open space, Southampton continues to utilize CPF revenue to enhance coastal flood mitigation, improve surface water quality, and maintain critical intertidal wildlife habitats across the South Fork.
